The CoPilot 2002 features two modes: Driving Mode and Planning Mode. Driving Mode requires that you be in the vehicle with the GPS receiver attached to the USB port of your laptop computer. Planning Mode can be used without the GPS receiver and is ideal for planning a trip in advance. In planning mode, you can customize your maps, adding labels for cities and places, adding custom places, labeling roads, editing streets, etc. This shows the CoPilot's Driving Mode, for a Passenger. When driving alone, the CoPilot reverts to a black screen with large arrow directions and uses voice commands to direct your movements. Passenger Driving Mode will allow your passenger to navigate with both a map and spoken directions.
CoPilot also has an itinerary feature that will let you access written turn-by-turn directions for your trip.
One of our favorite CoPilot features is its ability to instantly recalculate your route. If you miss a turn or have to take a detour because of road work, CoPilot 2002 will quickly recalculate your route, again giving you spoken directions about your next turn.
And you always have the ability, even when in motion, to have the map zoom in for greater detail or zoom out for a "Big Picture" view of your route and your current location. Simply say "Zoom Out" and the map will zoom out; say "Zoom In" and you can get a close-up view of your location. You also have a choice of how much detail your map displays.
We found CoPilot 2002 to be extremely user-friendly and simple. Route calculation was reliable and directions were easy to follow. The GPS oriented itself quickly and is not bulky (it easily fits in the palm of your hand and is very easy to pack and carry).
