Kool Seal Product Review

Your Home for RVing Information Over the Internet

A popular product among RVers for many years, Kool Seal is a white elastomeric roof coating, designed to help prevent and repair leaky roofs. Its bright white color offers the additional advantage of ultra-high reflectivity. This keeps your rig much, much cooler in the summertime, since a Kool Seal treated roof will reflect the sun's rays, rather than absorbing them as dark roofs do.

Kool Seal is an ideal product for use on home roofs as well, and a new and innovative use for the product is as a coating for metal buildings, both walls and roofs.

Kool Seal White Elastomeric Coating

We decided to try this out for ourselves, just to see exactly how well Kool Seal performs. We have tested this product on small areas over the years, and were amazed at the soundproofing qualities and heat-insulating qualities the product boasted. A water-based product, Kool Seal is easy to apply and is easy to clean up, requiring just water--no laquer thinners or other harsh chemicals required for clean-up.

Back in 1994, we purchased a 50 x 100 foot building in New Mexico to house our 47-foot travel trailer. Our writing career was demanding more and more of our time, and we were busy enough to need the convenience of a "home base."

Original building

Over the years, we have made small renovations to the property, but could not decide what kind of facelift the building needed. We considered a brick facade, stucco, and a variety of other solutions, but could not find the precise solution that fit our needs. We wanted to achieve more than just a pretty face--we wanted our building to be able to withstand the challenges of New Mexico's rigorous climate: extreme winds in the Spring, extreme heat in the Summer, and extreme cold and blizzard conditions in the Winter.

Temperatures here regularly vary more than 30 degrees in a 24 hour period. . . .
